Voice from a Chinese girl

Last week, my friend told me that he was plan to go to China next January to study Chinese. When hearing this news at  first, I was surprised and asked him, “Are you serious? He said, “Yes. I want to experience what you guys experienced. I want to know the way you live currently and I am looking forward to opening the mysterious veil of China by myself”. He's had a really great impression on me and made me pause to think of what the reasons to cause China still remain in being mystical in the era of information explosion. Maybe it is a fault of great firewall, or the press misleading, or cultural and language barriers. In this blog, I'm afraid that I can't give any conclusion yet.But if you are interested in how I think about my homeland, you are welcome to read it.:)

I was born in China. Nowadays China seems like a supermarket supplying for international needs. Do we like that? Hard to tell. On the one hand, overexploitation, excessive deforestation, and air pollution can’t be ignored.  Some insisted economic development needs a small price to pay, but they neglected the power of accumulation. Even the most generous nature who is willing to sacrifice everything for development like a mother, when facing with increasing demands, eventually got irritated and punished her greedy kids with earthquake, debris flow, and sandstorm. It’s said that certain punishment can accelerate correcting mistakes. The final outcomes told me that is true---- her astounding lessons finally restored her dignity and authority.

When back to the other side of story, especially in the light side, supermarket-role generates thousands of employment opportunities for residences. That means a lot, more than literal expression. When opening the history of China, 5000 years’ records constantly portray a rule. The rule is that the replacement of regime is attributed to anergy government whose unadvisable policies cause growing numbers of proletariat fighting for their basic livings. Incessant fights alert us to the significance and necessity of  equality. So the current government is trying their best to narrow the gap between rich and poor which she learned from 22 times  regime revolutions in the past. Trust me, it’s not an easy task to let 1.4 billion persons dwell in 967,000 square kilometers systematically  and orderly. Thus, I think although there is still so much space for them to get improvement,  recognition of their dedication should be deserved, right?

When it comes to great firewall, frankly speaking, we dislike that but I respect this decision. If I were put in their place, I’m not sure I would have enough courage to make a change in the present. I know great firewall not only blocks many useful and helpful resources, but also closes a door for both of insiders and outsiders. I’m also aware of unlimited complaints from both sides. And the government, I believe, has considered this issue. However, what time is the best to open thdoor, for an only 63-year-old government,  I guess, is their most difficult test problem. Hence, we have enough patience  to wait for that day coming. Hope it will not take too long. J Another side effect of wall-blocking is miscommunication and misunderstanding caused by misleading media. When I read some distorted news from zero-responsibility press,  all I can do is to hope more and more individuals can think critically.

About cultural and language barriers, I thought these obstacles are too hard to overcome  until Jared posted a blog. In that blog, it shows a story about a wordless conversation between two  scientists who can’t speak similar language to freely express or understand their thoughts but  they made it with the help of knives, forks and spoons finally. This tiny story enlightened my mind and made me realize that I laugh, I cry, I hope,I hurt, I fear, I love, and I believe you do the same things too. So we're really not that different.

This is a large blog.  Thank you for your reading. I think it’s time for back to the start.  After thinking for a while, I came up with three tips for his coming trip. The first one is that keep an eye on wallet and cell phone all the time when outside. There is less robbery with gun, but more thieves and even beyond imagination in China. Thus, it’s better to sharpen vigilance when enjoying new adventure. The second one is to carve three phone numbers in mind. Teacher’s and best Chinese friend’s, Ithink they can give  a hand whenever you want. Naturally, the most important phone number in China is 110 which is equal to 911 here. Then, I told him: “Man, Stephon Marbury has already made his champion dream come true in Beijing. You’d better to follow your dream too. Have fun”.

  1. Yuan, thanks for your post! I've been meaning to ask you about your homeland - and that's still my intention. I am curious. I too find China mysterious. I haven't known anyone very well who was raised in China, nor do I know anyone who visited for any length of time. I should say, my mother- and father-in-law just spent a few days there during a SE Asian cruise, and really enjoyed it. Anyway, when we have time next, please tell me more!

  2. OK.No problem.Sure. Jared. Premier said that: all of merits and demerits of this mysterious country are attributed to a quarter of the world's population it has.At the beginning, I didn't get the point. Crowded street, noisy environment, high stressful persons made me wanna keep away from there. But now, I'm dying to miss that.

  4. I agree with you it's not easy to rule a country with that many people in such a big land. I would say even in Taiwan, which is a small island, the politics are barely effective......US is a big country also, but we see it is running well and considered to be strong. I think it's not just government needs to improve the way they reign the country, it's also that the people need to take their responsibility to be educated, understand, and respect how democracy works. I truly hope one day that for both China and Taiwan, we will get the right kind of politics that's beneficial to our people and countries.
