It was 17 Christmases ago that
Santa left a note saying that said we could have a cat. What a great day that was! After about 6
weeks of asking everyday if we could go get the cat, my parents finally took us
to the humane society and there we found Fluffy. Her name was actually Ghost
but my older and bossy sister insisted that she be Fluffy.
Fluffy was already a year old. I remember being upset that we couldn’t get a
kitten but we needed a mature cat so she would be able to hold her own against
our husky. So Fluffy it was and we took her home.
She was a pretty shy cat. Days
would go by where no one would see her. She had some pretty good hiding places
that included desk drawers, dark corners of the crawl space, and behind
bookshelves. She was a master at hide-and-seek. My sisters and I were
disappointed that we had a cat that one could ever play with but over the
years, Fluffy eventually came around.
In recent years, Fluffy lost her
hearing and became fearless. She was quite the attention seeker making public
appearances when company was over or always jumping in the middle of board
games, puzzles, an open book, or in front of the computer like normal cats do. She
even began demanding glasses of ice water on the coffee table. So Fluffy and
her glass of ice water became the fixture of our family room.
About 2 weeks ago my dad called to say
that Fluffly was no more. Her health had deteriorated in her old age and it was
time to put her down. I grew up with that cat and just like that she was gone. It
makes me sad to think that Fluffy won’t be there the next time I go home, but at
least she is now immortalized on our blog.
Eileen, I miss my dog Dusty because I never see him (he lives with my parents), and my sister jokes about cloning him so we don't ever lose his disheveled little mischievous face. However, having seen several close pets ranging from dogs to birds to a feeder gold fish that grew to close to five inches, I now see a pets passing as an opportunity to share happiness with another pet, especially on from your local pet shelter, which is where we adopted Dusty.
ReplyDeleteI have a dog, Lee, who has stayed with me since my twelve to my twenty six. Lee’s mom went to garage of my mom’s working place with six little puppies. We adopted one of the puppies, that’s Lee. She joined our family and gave my brother and me a wonderful time. After long time of companionship, she is not only a pet but also like one of my family members. That is why I was so sad when she left us last year. I really thank her for these years and miss her very much.
